Kayla Lane Freeman
writer - director - comedienne

I’m an Austin filmmaker, writer and comedienne by way of Chicago.
Unruly, off-putting and strange little freaks are my thing.
In Jan 2025, I debuted my solo clown show, BAFFLING!, at Frontera Fest at Hyde Park Theatre. It was awarded "Best of Week" based on audience vote. Then, selected as one of the ten "Best of Fest" by a jury of artists.
In 2024, I wrote and directed, Plant Moms, with my film production partner, Mona Maclay. Plant Moms was awarded Austin Film Society grants in 2023 & 2024.
We're currently in post-production; Plant Moms will debut in Fall 2025.
My first film, The NDE, was an official selection for the Austin Lift-Off Film Festival, LA's Dark Comedy Film Festival, Lysistrata Comedy Festival and the ATX Short Film Showcase—screened in the 2023 Best of the Year comedy program.
I perform sketch, improv and clown comedy every week, mostly at Fallout Theater in downtown Austin. Follow me on IG if you're looking for when I'm next on stage.
I have Bachelor's degrees in RTF & American Studies from UT Austin. I have a Master's in Social Work from Loyola Chicago and a private therapy practice where I primarily serve queer, neurodivergent couples and individuals.
I spent 8 years in Chicago studying, producing and performing comedy, theatre and freaky DIY art before moving home to Austin in 2021.
